  38. 1. System Requirements
  39. ----------------------
  40. Stable Technical Graphs v2.2 is a Microsoft Windows application requiring
  41. the following minimal hardware configuration:
  42.  
  43.      o  An 80x86 personal computer running Microsoft Windows 3.1 and above,
  44.         Windows 95, or Windows NT.
  45.      o  4MB RAM.
  46.      o  VGA (640x480) or higher resolution.
  47.      o  System mouse or other pointing device.
  48.      o  System printer for producing printed charts (optional).

  50. 2. What Data Files Do I Use?
  51. ----------------------------
  52. Stable Technical Graphs is a financial analysis and charting application
  53. requiring you to have existing (or access to) financial historical data in
  54. one of the following supported formats:
  55.  
  56.      o  TeleChart 2000 (TC2000)
  57.      o  MetaStock
  58.      o  CSI (Commodity System Inc.)
  59.      o  Technical Tools
  60.      o  ASCII CSV (Comma Separated Format)
  61.  
  62. ASCII CSV is the most flexible, allowing you to use (worst case) any ASCII
  63. text editor to edit and maintain your data files manually.  Most spreadsheets
  64. can also export or save data in this format if you choose to maintain your
  65. financial data files in this manner.

  70. We have provided several financial ASCII data files that you can use to
  71. evaluate and run Stable Technical Graphs.  To access these files, perform
  72. the following steps:
  73.  
  74.     1.  Select File/Open Chart... from the application menu.
  75.     2.  In the Open Chart dialog, select "CSV (ASCII)" as the import file
  76.         type and navigate to the directory you installed Stable Technical
  77.         Graphs.  The File Name list should display the following financial
  78.         data files:
  79.  
  80.            AAPL.CSV        Apple Computer, Inc.
  81.            HRB.CSV         H&R Block
  82.            DJ30.CSV        Dow Jones 30 Industrials
  83.  
  84.     3.  Select one of the sample files and click the OK button.
  85.  
  86.         See "Chapter 6 Data Files" in the reference manual for further
  87.         details about ASCII file format (STABLE.TXT).

  89. 3. Installation
  90. ---------------
  91. The evaluation version of Stable Technical Graphs is normally provided in
  92. compressed format (.ZIP, .ARC, etc.)
  93.  
  94.      1. The simplest form of installation is to copy the compressed
  95.         file to a single directory (i.e. \STABLE).  If you have a previous
  96.         version of Stable Technical Graphs on your hard drive, and you want
  97.         to retain it, create a different directory (i.e., \STAB200).  The
  98.         data files that you will be using with this product (and provided
  99.         by you) can reside in any directory you choose.
  100.  
  101.      2. Decompress the Stable file using the appropriate decompression
  102.         program (PKUNZIP.EXE for .ZIP file, PKXARC.EXE for .ARC, etc.)
  103.         All distribution files should remain in the same directory.
  104.  
  105.         PLEASE READ CHAPTER 1  "INTRODUCTION" IN STABLE.TXT FOR ADDITIONAL
  106.         INSTALLATION AND REGISTRATION INFORMATION.

  108.      3. Execute STABLE.EXE from within the Windows environment.
  109.  
  110. 4. Version 2.2 Description
  111. ---------------------------
  112. The STABLE.TXT and STABLE.HLP files included with this evaluation release
  113. are the 2.0 versions supplied with Stable Technical Graphs.  The file
  114. ADDEND22.TXT provides the latest documentation and features associated
  115. with all versions subsequent to v2.0 of Stable Technical Graphs.
  116.  
  117. This upgrade provides the following new features and changes:
  118.  
  119.      o  Telechart 2000 (TC2000) data support has been extended to
  120.         read individual data directories as well as the historical
  121.         CD-ROM supplied by Worden Brothers.
  122.      o  Candlestick Charts have been introduced into this version.
  123.      o  Support for space/blank delimited ASCII files.
  124.      o  Popup data window (via F4).
  125.      o  Daily/Weekly/Monthly charts can be generated from daily data.
  126.      o  Multiple charts per page (1, 2, or 4) can be printed.
  127.      o  Windows resources are now monitored and charts opened only when
  128.         these resources are available.
  129.      o  General bug fixes.

  131. 5. Version 2.1 Description
  132. ---------------------------
  133. This upgrade provides the following new features and changes:
  134.  
  135.      o  Financial groups for organizing and collecting individual
  136.         charts into common groups.
  137.      o  Automatic loading of a financial group at startup.
  138.      o  Parallel trend lines.
  139.      o  Toolbar/Status bar hide/show.
  140.      o  Graph title in display area with last value
  141.      o  Improved Price Graph labeling.
  142.      o  "Delete All" button has been added to the Attachment dialog.
  143.      o  Volume Accumulation indicator added.
  144.      o  Display improvements; Graph title now in the graph's display
  145.         area, display of last data value in the title line.
  146.      o  General bug fixes.

  148. 6. Version 2.0 Description
  149. --------------------------
  150. Some of the major changes found in this version over previous versions of
  151. Stable Technical Graphs include:
  152.  
  153.      o  TeleChart 2000 (TC2000) data compatible!
  154.      o  Financial groups can be created for organizing and collecting any
  155.         number of individual charts into a common group.
  156.      o  Interactive chart drawing tools; including trend lines, speed
  157.         resistance lines, and text attachments can be drawn and saved with
  158.         any chart.
  159.      o  All charts are scalable along the X and Y axis - and include chart
  160.         zoom and selectable area functionality.  As many as 16,384 days of
  161.         data are supported for each and every chart.
  162.      o  New indicators have been added including Point & Figure, Stochastic,
  163.         and Performance graphs.
  164.      o  Chart data can be exported to various ASCII file formats; including
  165.         the price history format used to import into Quicken(TM).
  166.      o  Improved desktop chart management has been provided using the 
  167.         standard Microsoft Windows Multiple Document Interface (MDI).
  168.      o  Up to 8 technical analysis indicators can be created on each chart.
  169.      o  Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) support has been built in - allowing you
  170.         to communicate directly with any Stable chart through the use of
  171.         third-party software (such as Microsoft Excel) to open, print, 
  172.         display - or to dynamically add new data to a chart.
  173.      o  The record count record (first record in the ASCII file) is no longer
  174.         supported in v2.0 of Stable.  Additionally, the data format record
  175.         is now optional.

  177. 7. Program Tips
  178. ---------------
  179.      o  If you regularly use a large number of charts, it is best to store
  180.         your charts among several different groups instead of a single
  181.         group. Using a large number of charts at once can quickly use up
  182.         your system memory and resources - producing unwanted memory errors
  183.         to occur in some situations.
  184.     
  185.      o  If you find memory errors occurring on your printer when you attempt
  186.         to print your charts (particularly with laser printers), lower the
  187.         quality of the output by reducing the dots per inch setting or
  188.         selecting medium quality output.
  189.  
  190.      o  The Relative Strength indicator must always be based on a chart
  191.         contained within the group.  However, you may not want that
  192.         particular chart displayed along with the other charts in the group.
  193.         Try minimizing the chart so that the window is displayed as an icon
  194.         at the bottom of the program desktop area.

  196. 8. Additional Information
  197. -------------------------
  198.      o  All documentation files supplied with this product can be printed
  199.         by simply outputting the file contents to your system printer.
  200.         Documentation files include files with the .TXT extension.
  201.  
  202.      o  Please verify that you have all the files for this distribution by
  203.         checking the PACKING.LST file.
  204.  
  205.      o  Refer to the LICENSE.TXT file for complete information on product
  206.     distribution terms and restrictions.

  211.         latest Stable Technical Graphs product.

  223.                  As a licensed user you will be offered major version
  224.                  releases at a substantially reduced and favorable rate.

  226.               o  Free technical support by phone, mail, or electronic mail
  227.                  via CompuServe.

  230.         registration form found in the ORDERFRM.TXT text file, or in the
